It had been a week. Nothing more, nothing less. Yet it felt like it had been an eternity. The aching in my chest had not let up and there was a hole there now, I was guessing. A large, black, gaping hole in my heart where he had once been.
I hadn’t read any of the messages that he’d been sending. I should have, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I was so angry at him for lying to me when I’d thought him to be different. I’d known in my heart that he was different and then he went and lied about something—someone—in his life that was so important.
Why did he feel the need to lie to me? Why couldn’t he have come out and told me the truth?
